Frets on Fire, from Decatur, Georgia, is a young but experienced gigging band serious about their craft. Formed in 2009, and steeped in weekly blues jams under the tutelage of Chicago Joe Jones, the band has grown into a tight unit focused on original blues with strong funk, soul, and R&B influences, in the tradition of Southern artists such as Col. Bruce Hampton, the Wood Brothers, and JJ Grey and Mofro. The band was the youngest act to play on historic Beale Street in Memphis for the showcase event of the prestigious International Blues Challenge in 2010 (which they reprised in Feb 2012). Since then, Frets on Fire has matured into an experienced and widely-respected regular on the Atlanta-area live music scene and has performed regularly at festivals and venues around Atlanta and beyond. These talented young musicians can light it up with the best of them, but Frets on Fire is first and foremost about the joy of making music as a collective: funky grooves, sweet and soulful intertwining guitar & vocal melodies and harmonies, and smart lyrics from the heart. The band’s high-energy performances never fail to bring diverse audiences to their feet. The band has independently released two full-length, all-original records on iTunes/Amazon/CDBaby: “Ignition” (2013), recorded and mixed with noted Atlanta producer Martin Kearns; and “What’s Gone Tomorrow” (2011), recorded with Grammy-nominated engineer/producer Damien Lewis.
